Jane on Larkin immediately won over my tastebuds and secured a spot in my brunch favorites. The cafe, which doesn’t have a sign on the outside, is located in the not-so-nice area of the Tenderloin, but makes up for it by it’s amazing selection of food and pastries, coffees, and interior design (tiled walls!!).
Jane, which has two locations (Larkin and Fillmore), serves a full brunch menu, complete with benedicts, meaty breakfast choices, and sweeter alternatives like parfaits and granolas. They also have paninis and sandwiches if your morning starts after brunch! The coffee, which is brought in by Stumptown (local), is the perfect counterpart to the many mouthwatering pastries, croissants, and brioches.
Pictured above, next to the latte, is a citrus brioche, and above is a cinnamon roll topped with a generous layer of cream cheese frosting (that I kept licking off the plate!). The pastries were full of flavor but not overly sweet, and are a great size for a lighter breakfast.
The avocado mash, however, was the best avocado toast I’ve ever had. The toast was thick, warm, and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the avocado was plentiful, mixed with hints of garlic, lemon, and paprika. On top of the avocado was a poached egg, some leafy greens, and scallions, topped with the perfect amount of salt and pepper. Avocado toast looks like an extremely easy meal to make – and it is, but the combination of flavors with the poached egg were enough to make me crave another one right after I devoured the first one!
When I finally took a moment to stop obsessing over my avo-toast, I fell in love with the tiled walls and cute “Jane” products sitting on the wall. The inside had multiple tables and a bar section, and while there were many people visiting Jane for their Sunday morning breakfasts, it didn’t take long to grab a seat. The employees were very welcoming and accommodating, and made my experience at Jane even better than it already was!
I am already planning on bringing other friends here for more avo-toast and cinnamon rolls (that cream cheese frosting!). Trekking through the Tenderloin is definitely worth it for Jane on Larkin – it is one of my best finds yet!
