Craftsman and Wolves has recently taken over my Instagram feed – and with good reason! After drooling over the egg muffin photos that foodies all over San Francisco posted every weekend, I had to try them for myself.
This cute red brick bakery located on Valencia St. in the Mission seems small but has ample space and plenty of seating inside. The counter showcases all of the beautiful sweet treats and savory pastries that are baked fresh daily.
There are fancy chocolate croissants, matcha green tea cookies, pickled strawberry and beet rye bread squares, and cheesy tear bread.
Next to the rows of pastries and various breakfast-y options are the cakes and tarts, much like those you would find in a fancy French cake shop. The cakes ranged from horchata cake cubes (pictured above), to fruit tarts and Speculoos cookie treats (pictured below).
The Speculoos cookie treats came in multiple flavors, but we chose the raspberry topped Speculoos with earl grey cream filling and white chocolate. Since we visited Craftsman and Wolves for breakfast, this we saved for dessert – and it was one of the most memorable and delicious sweets I’ve had in a long time. Speculoos, earl grey, and raspberries are three foods that I always obsess over – the fact that Craftsman and Wolves found a way to put these all together in a fantastic dessert with the perfect amount of sweet and tart was the final straw – I was in love.
But first, breakfast.
This muffin, next to a ham and cheese twist, looks innocent, right? It has little chunks of sausage, asiago cheese, and green onions, but looks like an ordinary, savory muffin.
Slice right through the muffin and you find a perfectly soft boiled egg, the yolk just drippy enough to not make a mess but to give the muffin a bit of a softer texture. This muffin, called “The Rebel Within,” is Craftsman and Wolves main dish and what attracts most of its customers to the store. I still can’t figure out exactly how they make this (how do they get that egg in there??) but I did enjoy every single bite. The muffin itself is warm, fluffy, and has the perfect mixture of flavors that go with the soft cooked egg hidden on the inside.
Pair it with a latte or an espresso, and this way-better rendition of the Egg McMuffin is enough to fill you up all morning. Of course, you will be tempted to try other pastries and you can’t pass up a dessert… even if it is 10 in the morning.
I quickly fell in love with Craftsman and Wolves after even just glancing at “The Rebel Within” and their multitude of other snacks. They even have a full menu of sandwiches and other lunch items!
Ditch those Egg McMuffins and grab “The Rebel Within” from Craftsman and Wolves! You won’t be able to resist buying two… or three… or even a dozen items from their bakery! I know I couldn’t…
