Bluestem Brasserie

Bluestem Brasserie was an accidental find – a reservation mix up that ended in a brunch spot I may never have thought of going to. The food and drinks, along with the service, however, ensured that we would not regret our decision of following through on our unintentional pick!

The menu, which we checked out online, immediately caught my attention.

Before arriving, I had already admired the cute, simplistic menu, and chosen the Cinnamon French Toast as my brunch meal.

The Cinnamon French Toast was more of a dessert brunch – a dense, almost cake-like piece of toast, covered in cinnamon sugar and topped with Hazelnut Creme Chantilly (whipped cream). The meal was sweet and very filling, and came with a small cup of fruit, with fresh plums and nectarines, a nice change from the usual melon assortment of other establishments.

A friend ordered the Pork Belly & Sausage Hash, which came with a flavorful medley of potatoes and onions, topped with a poached egg and paprika. The dish tasted almost like a stew, with juicy, rich meats and the soft potatoes and squash to balance out the flavor.

The Bluestem Brunch Burger, however, is said to be their most favored dish, which two of my friends ordered.

Loaded with protein, the Brunch Burger consisted of these layers:

A beef patty
Hash browns
Breakfast Sausage
Bacon
An egg
And avocado

The burger also had bread and butter pickles, and a small dollop of their “spicy ketchup,” served with a bed of greens.

While for some this may be quite the belly bomb, for meat-lovers and hardcore brunchers, this burger is the way to go. It has all aspects of a breakfast meal – the egg, the meats, the potatoes, and even avocado – that are stuffed between the last breakfast essential: bread. The burger contained the perfect proportions of each ingredient, and were balanced enough flavor-wise, to where the consumer could taste each distinct layer.

Topping that all off with a simple Peach Bellini and a Kiwi-Gin Cocktail concluded in a tasty and incredibly filling brunch. With great service and a large selection of unique cocktails, I would love to come again for the dinner or happy hour menu!
